Nestlé Philippines Wins Citations for Industrial Peace and Social Accountability

 

Nestlé Philippines, Inc. polished anew its image as a worthy employer and corporate citizen after bagging two of the four Citation Awards in this year’s Kapatiran sa Industriya (KAPATID) Awards of the Employers Confederation of the Philippines (ECoP). The Company won the Citations for Outstanding Achievement in Industrial Peace and Harmony as well as Outstanding Achievement in Social Accountability, with no less than President Noynoy Aquino handing the awards to the jubilant NPI contingent on the occasion of the 32nd National Conference of Employers held at the Marriott Hotel on May 5.

Corporate Affairs Head Edith de Leon, National Sales Director Paolo Rodriguez, Supply Chain Management Head Jojit Aguilar, and incoming HR Director Mitzie Antonio led the Nestlé group that received the awards.

The Citation for Social Accountability recognizes Nestle Philippines for its exceptional CSV programs and practices “that assist in the self- sufficiency of its many beneficiaries, especially coffee farmers.” The Citation for Industrial Peace and Harmony recognizes the Company for its success in fostering “an environment of mutual trust, respect, and transparency, enhancing employees’ participation in matters that affect them.”

“These awards are dedicated to all the men and women who have made Nestle Philippines what it is today. They are truly a milestone for us on our Centennial Year,” said outgoing HR Director Gid Manuel, who spearheaded the drive to vie for this year’s KAPATID Awards.

The Kapatiran sa Industriya or KAPATID Awards is a recognition activity of the Employers Confederation of the Philippines (ECoP), which is conducted every two years coinciding with the staging of the National Conference of Employers. It has evolved into a comprehensive search for best workplace policies and programs, aiming to commend enterprises with sound and harmonious management and worker relationship.

In campaigning for the awards, the Nestlé team went through intensive panel interviews with the KAPATID Awards Executive Committee before advancing to the final round of interviews with the Board of Judges. Companypolicies, programs, and practices pertaining to industrial relations, social accountability, quality and productivity, and strategic visioning and partnering were brought to fore and scrutinized in these interviews, enabling judges to fully appreciate the Company’s worthiness.

Judgment was based on the characterization of enterprise level cooperation for better labor relations; product and service quality and improved productivity; enhanced relationship with workers, their families, and the society; and the ability of the enterprise to foresee future economic and socio-political changes through long-term planning and sustainability.

Nestlé bested more than 10 other finalist companies, which included SM Retail, Bridgestone Precision, Amkor Technology, and IBM Philippines, among others. Dole Philippines won the grand KAPATID award while Toyota Motor Philippines got the Citation for Quality and Productivity.

The Board of Judges in this year’s KAPATID Awards was composed of Labor Secretary Rosalindo Baldoz, ILO-Manila Director Lawrence Jeff Johnson, Dean Jorge Sibal of UP-School of Labor and Industrial Relations, Antonio Asper of the Federation of Free Workers, and David Balangue of the Makati Business Club.
