As an 80s kid growing in Bacolod, I only hear about MILO® Marathon in TV commercials.  It's sounds like a big event and always brings that Olympic spirit with it.  I was never active in running back then.  I am not that athletic except playing for chess during elementary and college.

More than 20 years later, I have graduated with an engineering degree, got passionate about running, and finished 2 full marathons.  Despite all the changes, the MILO® Marathon is still here getting better than ever.  When I hear about MILO® Marathon, it means a big and prestigious running event.  Big because it is being attended by a multitude of runners of all ages and in all parts of the country.  Prestigious because it is the only event that gathers the best of the best runners in the Philippines for a final showdown at the end of the year.

In the 34th National MILO® Marathon, the event does even more.  They will provide underprivileged children with running shoes. Every time a runner joins, a portion of the registration fee will be allotted to the advocacy.   I believe that the future champions lies among the children today.  Give them more exposure to running and athletics and we could be closer to that elusive Olympic Gold Medal.  I believe this project will continue to bring running more than just a fad, but a passion for future generations.

So this year, runners are doing more good than just for themselves.  Running becomes more than just getting fit, breaking records and attaining personal achievement.  Running is about taking sacrifices for the benefit of others.

Just keep on running.
