NESCAFÉ Soundskool gives college bands a chance to be heardNESCAFÉ Soundskool gives every college band the chance to share its music to a wider audience. Just like the band SOTC, finalist of NESCAFE Soundskool 2007 from Far Eastern University, music groups from different universities can now have the opportunity to be famous and be heard. “Joining NESCAFÉ Soundskool gave our band a shot to perform in front of many people. From the regional finals all the way to Boracay and the finals in Ultra, NESCAFÉ Soundskool definitely has given us the chance to be heard,” says Martin Protacio, frontman of SOTC. NESCAFÉ Soundskool is an annual nationwide search for the best college bands. The first winner of this famed intercollegiate band competition is Hilera (Kalayaan College), now dubbed as one of the most promising bands in the country. Apart from providing the opportunity to be the next big thing in the music industry, NESCAFÉ Soundskool also helped SOTC hone its members’ talents and skills in creating their own music. SOTC and the rest of the last year’s finalists went to Boracay for a special workshop. “The workshop in Boracay is our most memorable experience in joining NESCAFÉ Soundskool. Aside from performing outside Metro Manila and bonding with the other finalists, our group also learned a lot about recording songs, performing, and the music business in general,” shares Martin. SOTC’s mentor for the workshop was Itchyworms who shared pieces of advice with the band. Martin and his bandmates Luis Feliciano, Jose Cervero, Joshua Gerona, and Jon Pinto were inspired by Itchyworms and other music icons to love their craft. Being a finalist of the competition also gave SOTC the chance to record an original song for the 2007 NESCAFÉ Soundskool Finalist Compilation Album. The song “Pagtatapos ng Bagong Storya” was the band’s contribution in the compilation. SOTC is very active in the band scene nowadays performing in different events, malls, and bars in the metro. The members are currently writing new songs for their debut album as well. SOTC’s experience on NESCAFÉ Soundskool surely paved the way for the band’s dream to make more people listen to their music. And for young hopefuls who want to make it big, Martin has one advice: “Believe in your craft, have fun, and practice, practice, and more practice.” To learn more about NESCAFÉ Soundskool, visit http://www.nescafe3in1.com.ph. |
