NESCAFÉ Soundskool: The search for the best college bands

IT’S another exciting year for NESCAFÉ Soundskool as it opens its doors anew to the most talented college bands across the country.

Now on its fourth run, the competition has served as the launchpad for the next big acts in the music industry. Its first winner, Hilera from Kalayaan College, is dubbed as one of the most promising bands in the country.

How to join
NESCAFÉ Soundskool is open to all unsigned bands with three to five members who are currently enrolled in a university or college. They must be 16 to 26 years old, Filipino citizens, or have resided in the Philippines for at least one year.

The college/university being represented by the band should at least have one member enrolled in the said college/university.

The band is also required to submit a written endorsement letter signed by the authorized school personnel. Other requirements for the NESCAFÉ Soundskool include completed application form (downloadable at www.nescafe3in1.com.ph), demo CD with one cover and one original song with a maximum running time of three minutes each, photocopy of birth certificate, proof of enrollment, a 4R photo of the group, lyric sheets, and empty genuine NESCAFÈ 3in1 boxes.

All entries should be sealed in a short brown envelope with the band’s name and school written at the back. Entries must be sent to FRONTROW DIRECT MEDIA GROUP: Unit 2508 Jollibee Plaza, Emerald Avenue, ortigas Center, Pasig City on or before September 5,2008.

Improving skills in creating music
Aside from discovering new music groups, NESCAFÉ Soundskool also has the desire to equip them with the knowledge and the tools they can use to become successful through NESCAFÉ Soundskool Workshop.

The seminar aims to help amateur bands to further develop their talents and improve their skills in creating music.

NESCAFÉ Soundskool also gives the competition’s finalists the opportunity to work with already established bands through its mentorship programs. Here, the final contenders are provided pieces of advice and inspiration from the Philippines’ band icons.

Last year, OPM bands Sandwich, Pedicab, Callalily, Imago, and Sugarfree participated in the mentorship program held in Boracay.

There’s surely a lot to expect from NESCAFÉ Soundskool this year as it brings yet another batch of talented amateur bands to young people.
