Handa ka na bang sumikat?
August 17, 2010

The allure of fame and fortune drives millions of Filipinos to do just about anything to fulfill their dreams. However, achieving success is not just about being in the limelight, but about developing skills and talent that will serve as the foundation of an exciting future.

“The Philippines is teeming with young talents that have yet to be discovered,” says Ronald Chuacokiong, Marketing Promotions Manager for NESCAFÉ 3 in 1 Soundskool. “That is the premise of NESCAFÉ 3 in 1 Soundskool – to give the opportunity of a lifetime to the untapped potential of the youth and harness their passion and talent for music and turn them into successful musicians.”

Since 2005, NESCAFÉ 3 in 1 Soundskool has been searching for promising college bands that will be tomorrow’s hottest young talents. The competition has produced hit bands such as Hilera (2005), Letter Day Story (2008), and last year’s Grand Winner Eevee. Not only does NESCAFÉ 3 in 1 Soundskool pave the way for the new breed of Pinoy stars, it also gives contestants a once-in-a-lifetime chance to be trained by some of the best mentors in the music industry.

This year, things have become more extreme as the search for the best college bands of the Philippines has intensified. Early this year, NESCAFÉ 3 in 1 Soundskool brought the competition straight to the colleges and universities via a mobile recording studio where young hopefuls can record their entries for the competition. “The search is still on,” shares Chuacokiong. “Recruitment is ongoing, and we are excited to hear the kind of music that will emerge in this year’s competition.”

Chuacokiong adds that NESCAFÉ 3 in 1 Soundskool allows the youth to express themselves and share their passion for music with the rest of the world. “The energy is infectious,” he says, “and it is a privilege for us to give the youth the best venue to be heard.”

Of course, the excitement isn’t just for the contestants. NESCAFÉ 3 in 1 Soundskool 2010 now gives supporters the chance to make connections with the bands through text voting and online activities. Fans can show their support for their favorite bands through text votes, which will be included in the criteria for the Grand Finals. “Fans can also have a taste of the NESCAFÉ 3 in 1 Soundskool experience through our Facebook fan page and the official website to see what other bands have to offer,” shares Chuacokiong.

Aside from the privilege to undergo music training workshop and mentoring with some of the Philippine music industry’s top performers and personalities, five finalists from all over the country will compete for PhP500,000 and a record label deal  with Sony Music  Philippines. As a bonus, the school that the winning band is representing will receive a musical showcase worth PhP100,000.

Sponsors for this year’s NESCAFÉ 3in1 Soundskool are Sony Music Entertainment Philippines, Inc., Sony Philippines, and La Carmela de Boracay Resort Hotel, and Hard Rock Café Makita.

Music sounds better with coffee

The wailing guitars, the smashing of drums and melodic chants: They all come together in one glorious wall of rhythmic harmony. But sometimes, passion takes a back seat if you need to rest your body and mind. Well, people will know if the band is not playing at a 100%. Now that’s where coffee comes into play. Research has shown that coffee improves mental and physical alertness. It helps keep you awake especially if youуre playing at late hours. Coffee also stimulates your mind, which may help in songwriting. So the next time you and your buds are giving it all for music, be sure to give a little back to your physical and mental health.

After all, a sound mind and a sound body, sounds cool.
