Expertise
Coffee connoisseurs
March 25, 2006 Manila Standard
Today
Quality
can sometimes be overshadowed by aesthetics. It's the print
vis-à-vis the fabric, the form against the content,
so to speak.
But there are products that are as good as they look. So
it comes as no surprise that three of the most sought after
names in the industry that prizes both quality and aesthetics
share a passion for Nescafé Gold - the premium coffee
product of the world's leading name in coffee.
Fashion designer Frederick Peralta, writer-stylist
Ana Kalaw and events organizer and director Robbie
Carmona are fashion as well as coffee connoisseurs who
look to Nescafé Gold as their coffee brand of choice.
Quality is a commitment
Like Nescafé Gold, Peralta sees quality as a commitment
and this is reflected in his creations.
"Quality is sincerity of service. It's a reflection
of your attitude toward life," he says. And this is shown
in the consistency of your design. This outlook toward work
and life is perhaps the reason why the multi-awarded designer's
name remains as relevant as ever in an industry that continues
to see names come and go as quickly as the fashion trends
they initiate.
This may also be the reason why celebrities and socialites
alike continue to favor him - whether the occasion calls for
a classic suit or a breathtaking evening gown.
Peralta
is not only known to satisfy the sartorial needs of clients
though. He also has numerous awards to his name. He is the
first Filipino to win the coveted Concous International de
Jeunes Creaturs de Mode (International Young Designers Fashion
Contest) in Paris and has done the Philippines proud by bagging
the ASEAN Design Competion Award in the 1990s as well.
Peralta's reputation as a fashion expert has also landed
him a radio hosting job, a fashion editorship for a wedding
magazine, and column writing for a major daily.
These, however, are not the only things that keep this in-demand
designer busy. He also serves as a member of the board of
directors of the Fashion Design Council, active in Rotary
and is a father to a 13-year old son.
"This is the reason why I can't start my day without
my Nescafé Gold," he says. "It perks me up
and keeps me going throughout the day."
Peralta
says that he can drink as many as six cups of Nescafé
Gold a day. "I take coffee in the morning. I usually
have coffee with my clients. And I also have conversations
with friends over coffee," he explains.
Asked what he likes about NESCAFÉ Gold, the fashion expert
says: "I like that it doesn't compromise on quality just
like me."
After all, Peralta says that "whoever or whatever one
is, you only have one name to protect."
Quality means no compromises
And if there is one name that immediately comes to mind when
it comes to events production, its Carmona's.
Just like Peralta, Carmona is one of the most sought after
names not just in the fashion industry, but in the corporate
events organizing world as well. He has successfully steered
his 10-year old SAGA Events into becoming one of the most
successful event companies in the country.
This may be because, just like Peralta, Carmona conducts
work with passion so much that he doesn't like making compromises
when it comes to quality.
"I won't settle for anything else," he points out.
Being uncompromising when it comes to quality though, requires
extra effort. "In this line of work, you always have
to reinvent yourself, experiment and do things that you have
not done before. You always have to be in your toes,"
he says.
This
is the reason why Carmona says Nescafé Gold plays an
important part in his working day - which usually starts at
9 a.m. and ends at 2 a.m. the following day.
"Nescafé Gold makes me think more," he says.
"It gives me more energy to think, to collaborate, and
to create ideas."
Quality is passion
And energy and creativity are things that fashion writer-stylist
Kalaw deals with every day.
She writes two regular columns for a major daily, editorial
work for several magazines of Summit Publishing, styles for
advertorials, and travels a lot.
"That's why I cant last the day without taking my Nescafé
Gold," she says.
Kalaw, who equates quality with passion, says that she was
drawn to Nescafé Gold because, "I want my coffee
good."
"In fashion, quality does not always mean it has to
be a designer label and expensive. As long as passion went
in its creation and it is something distinct, it has quality,"
she explains.
Just like every Fillipino kid, Kalaw says that she grew up
on Nescafé. "It has become almost automatic that
when you think of coffee, you think of NESCAFÉ. And I like
it that it has gone through many improvisations throughout
the years."
