Radio jocks begin each day with a warm cup of coffee
December 2008
BEING a radio DJ requires not just a passion for music, but great wit as well. They’re not just there to play songs, after all, but likewise entertain and answer listeners’ queries.
And for four of the country’s most popular spin meisters, having a cup of their favorite NESCAFE Classic before they begin each working day helps in keeping them on their toes.
According to positivelycoffee.org, in fact, coffee helps in enhancing mental performance and concentration—something that Papa Jack, T-Bowne, Mr. Fu, and Jumbo Joe can attest to.

John Gemperle or Papa Jack’s comic panache have earned his programs “True Love Conversation” and “Papa Jack’s Confessions” quite a following. Here, he gives pieces of advice to listeners while injecting hilarious comments.
“I want give people comic relief despite their difficult love life,” says Papa Jack who started the successful programs almost one year ago.
But besides his “natural talent for being amusing”, Papa Jack says he owes his alertness coffee.
He explains, “Taking a cup before I go on-air makes me respond quickly to my listeners I can give people funny, yet sound remedies for the heart in no time.”
“True Love Conversation” and “Papa Jack’s Confessions” air on Monday to Friday, 9pm to 2am.
T-Bowne of YES FM 101.9
For someone who’s been in the radio industry for more than a decade, Bryan Quintoriano, a.k.a T-Bowne, knows that mental alertness is key in keeping listeners entertained.
“I always have to be mentally prepared so I can think of nice adlibs and prevent dead air,” says T-Bowne, who claims he was inspired by his father to have a career in broadcasting.
And T-Bowne says that drinking NESCAFÉ Classic has helped him a lot in his profession. More than just a routine, coffee-drinking gives him the focus he needs during his program.
T-Bowne explains, “Listeners can easily know if a DJ is not in the mood or losing control of the program. DJs must have a presence of mind to keep their audience tuned in.”
T-Bowne is heard Monday to Saturday at 4-6pm.
Mr. Fu of 91.5 ENERGY FM
If you hear the tagline “Dahil diyan, close na tayo!” on the radio, then you’re probably listening to Mr. Fu in his program “The Night Show with Mr. Fu.”
Going by the real name Jeffrey Espiritu, Mr. Fu makes his listeners laugh with his side-splitting spiels as he tries to give his listeners sound advice for their love life.
“I want them to feel light and relieved so I fuse funny ideas with my opinion,” says Mr. Fu.
To make his job “easier”, according to him, he drinks coffee.
“I’ve been drinking NESCAFE Classic for years. And drinking coffee has helped a lot in enhancing my mental performance, so I can quickly come up with jokes and adlibs in my show,” he says,
He adds, “Whenever my listeners send me their letters about their love problems, I need a sharp mind to reply accordingly.”
Aside from being a love guru, he also shares with his listeners the latest chika in showbiz in “The Night Show with Mr. Fu” aired Monday to Friday, 9-11 pm.
Jumbo Joe of 93.9 IFM
Jumbo Joe has been in the business since the ‘90s and he has learned that the secret to sustaining listeners’ interest is having an alert mind.
“An alert mind enables you to keep your audience tuned in,” he says.
Jupiter Torres or Jumbo Joe on the radio does almost all the jobs behind the radio booth. He plays songs, reads greetings and messages, and reports the latest gossips to his listeners.
“And I always have a cup NESCAFÉ Classic to keep me on my toes. This helps me effectively deliver my spiels and speak to my audience,” He says.
Jumbo Joe can be heard every morning at 8am up to 12 noon.
NESCAFÉ Classic is definitely the most reliable partner of our favorite DJs on air. Coffee helps them have an alert mind to keep their listerners enteratined and the music coming.
