NESCAFÉ Protect shares a cup of wellness tips
May 2007
NESCAFÉ Protect, the breakthrough coffee product with three times the antioxidant protection of green tea, shares helpful tips on how to make the most of your summer vacation while maintaining your total wellness.
Nescafé Protect is the perfect companion to mull over some simple things you can do this season to make life even sunnier for you.
Stay hydrated
Your body needs extra hydration during the warmer months ahead so be sure to drink plenty of fluids, especially water, throughout the day. Besides water, did you know that coffee like NESCAFÉ Protect is also a great way to stay hydrated during the summer months since coffee also helps ensure your body receives enough antioxidants to combat harmful free radicals that can cause early signs of aging like wrinkling and some chronic degenerative diseases.
Take cover
Summer is undoubtedly the season to head for the beach and catch some rays. But while sporting a tan may seem like you’re taking care of your health, just remember that prolonged sun exposure can lead to more than just sunburn. It can also increase production of free radicals that lead to certain types of skin cancer. So don’t forget to slather some sunscreen when you head outdoors. Choose a sunscreen with an SPF (Sun Protection Factor) appropriate to your skin type and be sure to apply it at regular intervals especially after swimming or doing activities that make you perspire.
Antioxidants like those found in NESCAFÉ Protect help in neutralizing free radicals that can lead to certain types of cancer and degenerative diseases.
“Chillax”
Health buffs who like to work out on hot summer days should be mindful of the risks of heavy exertion when temperatures are high. Some people tend to plow through with their regular workout no matter what the conditions are, completely oblivious to the dangers of heat stroke or heat exhaustion. If you experience symptoms that include headache, rapid pulse, dilated pupils, nausea and confusion during heavy physical activity; listen to your body, rest in the shade, and drink fluids.
Senior citizens and people with heart, kidney or lung disease should be extra cautious because they have a higher risk for heatstroke and heat exhaustion
No one is suggesting you give up on all physical activity during the hot, dry months; however, it’s a good idea to factor in the heat and possible dehydration which you’re subjecting your body to. Drink plenty of fluids before, during and after exercising and try to avoid exercise or strenuous activities between 11a.m. to 2 p.m. when temperatures are at their highest. To be specific, drink at least 1/4 cup or a gulp of water every 15 minutes during your workout and replenish yourself with 2-3 cups of water for each pound that you lost after workout. Many people are starting to discover that drinking a tall glass of iced coffee is a great way to stay focused and alert during a late afternoon workout when the heat can rob us of our energy.
Look Cool
Believe it or not, your summer wardrobe may have a bearing on your health and well being. Wearing light, loose-fitting clothing helps you stay cooler both figuratively and literally. Natural fibers like cotton and linen are summer staples for clothing because they “breathe” better and are preferable to clothes which trap perspiration that could eventually lead to heat rash.
Don’t overlook the importance of a good pair of sunglasses either. More than providing a measure of comfort against the painful glare of the sun, a good pair of shades protects our eyes from harmful UV (Ultraviolet) radiation which has been implicated the development of cataracts, a gradual clouding of the lens of the eye.
Since UV radiation is invisible, the darkness of a pair of sunglasses is not a reliable measure of its ability to protect your eyes. Ask your optometrist for help in selecting sunglasses that provide proper protection from UV rays.
Eat and drink health
It isn’t uncommon to feel somewhat sluggish during summer. Maintain your energy level by limiting your intake of fat and sugar and focus on carbohydrates, fruits and vegetables instead.
If, like many people, you find your appetite decreasing during summer, make sure your body still gets the antioxidant protection it needs to combat disease by prioritizing fruits and vegetables in your diet. You can boost your antioxidant levels even further by enjoying the smooth flavor, mild taste and distinct aroma of NESCAFÉ Protect –a great way to take in fluids while looking good in the shade.
