Asian Development Foundation College’s Lazy Susan won this year’s NESCAFÉ Soundskool search for the best college band, bringing home P250,000 in cash, a contract from EMI Philippines, and P150,000 worth of band setup for their school.

The Tacloban-based band bested 12 other finalists in the three-year-old contest that brought together the most talented college bands in the country.

“Hindi pa rin kami makapaniwala na kami ang nanalo (We still can’t believe that we won),” said a shocked Philip Pagaduan, vocalist of the four-piece band. Pagaduan is joined by Diancarlo Mendoza on guitars, Jonathan Costelo on bass and vocals and Feddy Orpeza on drums.

What made the night even more memorable for Lazy Susan as well as the rest of the finalists was that they got the chance to perform with the country’s top bands, who also acted as their mentors during their mentorship program.

“Sobrang saya namin na nakasama namin ang Hale mag-perform (We’re so happy to perform with Hale),” said Pagaduan, who lists Hale and other OPM bands as their favorites.

Sugarfree officially started the competition as they sang their “Dear Kuya” and went on to perform their hit “Mariposa” as they introduced their mentor band, Hotsie Patootsie of the Asia Pacific College.

Mojofly then performed with STI College Davao’s Peaches, Coffeebreak Island with Eastern Visayas State University’s Karasak Hill 522, Urbandub with University of Baguio’s Even, JR Kilat with Asian Development Foundation College’s Youth Rebellion, Moonstar 88 with University of Cordilleras’ Jam Disposition, Itchyworms with University of the East’s SOTC, Spongecola with St. Vincent College’s Blue Ozone, Pedicab with University of Asia and the Pacific’s Ernville, Imago with Ateneo de Manila University’s Hymn of Siren, Sandwich with Union Christian College’s Zoom Zoom Lunacy and Rivermaya with Capitol University’s Novelista Pasta.

As if that wasn’t enough for a musical treat, this year’s NESCAFÉ Soundskool likewise had three of the country’s most popular bands as special guest artists.

Callalily set the tone for the night as they rocked the venue with some of their most popular songs. NESCAFÉ Soundskool 2005 winners Hilera likewise took the stage, performing their first single off their maiden album, “Rhyme Without Reason.” Bamboo then had the entire ULTRA up on their feet singing. And the night ended with a rocking performances from Parokya ni Edgar. NESCAFÉ Soundskool 2007 was truly a night to remember!
