noteworthy livelihood activity for housewives at Barangay Bagong Pook in Lipa
Batangas, is the Yard and Garden project of the Nestlé Lipa Factory, which
involves cut flower product on and organic vegetable farming in a plot of land
within the premises of the factory. Here, the ladies grow vegetables and
ornamental plants. With the Factory giving financial assistance, planting
materials, and relevant training, the Yard and Garden members take full charge
of the operation of the garden and sell all their produce to the factory
canteen and employees.
They also rent out
the ornamental plants to the Factory. They use the earnings to pay for their
operational expenses, including remuneration of those involved in the project.
A portion of the
Nestlé Pulilan Factory premises is also home to the Farmville program, through
which local housewives were trained, supplied with material and seed capital to
grow cut flowers vegetables. The produce is sold in the Factory canteen and to
employees and at times, even to village residents - offering both economic and
health benefits for the community. Inspired by the success of the Yard and
Garden project of the Nestlé Factory, the Farmville Program is run by 13 women
tending to the garden in Pulilan.
together with the women in the community, Nestlé is able to give life to its
purpose of enhancing quality of life and contributing to a healthier future.
