Choose Good for You

What is the Nestlé Wellness Campus?

Nestlé Wellness Campus (NWC) is a long-standing program together with the Department of Education that aims to instill healthy habits among Filipino elementary and high school students. We provide science-backed learning modules to 12 million public school children in 26,000 public schools.

The Nestlé Wellness Campus Healthy Habits:

  • Choose nutritious options
  • Manage portions
  • Drink water and milk
  • Play actively
  • Enjoy meals together
  • Keep good hygiene
  • Care for the planet

We also take an innovative approach in making learning about proper nutrition fun and engaging with interschool competitions for best implementation of the NWC program, best performance of the NWC dancercise, and a cooking competition to name a few.

Is NWC limited to the classroom?

We believe in the saying that it takes a village to raise a child. That is why we created online communities for our NWC teachers and parents to further apply school learnings at home. There they can share their best practices and insights on how to raise healthy and active children as well as reach out for help and support when it comes to the unique challenges that they face. Check out Nestlé Wellness Campus - Teachers' Community for teachers and Nestlé Wellness Homeroom - Parents' Community for parents.

What are fortified products?

Fortified products are products wherein at least one of the big four micronutrients (iron, iodine, vitamin A, and zinc) are added. These micronutrients have been identified as micronutrients that are generally lacking from the diet of the average Filipino but are essential in achieving proper nutrition.

Your favorite Nestlé brands, fortified:

  • BEAR BRAND - Iron, Vitamin A, and Zinc
  • BONAKID - Iron, Iodine, Vitamin A, and Zinc
  • CHUCKIE - Iron, Vitamin A, and Zinc
  • KOKO KRUNCH - Iron
  • MAGGI - Iron
  • MILO - Iron
  • NIDO - Iron, Iodine, Vitamin A, and Zinc

Why is fortification important?

We recognize the global problem of micronutrient deficiency. In the Philippines, 1 out of 4 school-age Filipino children are stunted or underweight because of undernutrition1. This nutrient gap also extends to adolescents with 9 out of 10 of them not getting enough of the nutrients they need. Helping address these gaps can help build a stronger, healthier population that can better contribute to society.

How do we ensure that our products are fortified by the right micronutrients?

Our purpose is to unlock the power of food to enhance the quality of life for everyone today, and for generations to come. As a champion of accessible and and sustainable nutrition, we collaborate with academe and various research institutions to understand and identify solutions to the most pressing nutrition needs of our consumers. Through collaborative effort, each serving now gives you a meaningful step towards your daily nutritional needs.

What are positive ingredients?

Positive ingredients are what we include in our product offerings to ensure that they are filled with nutritional value. With your health at the heart of our products, we actively select and use positive ingredients like dairy, whole grains, fruits, and vegetables. By prioritizing such, we create nutrient-dense products designed to address nutrient deficiencies in typical diets.

Our offerings with added positive ingredients:

  • NESTEA Cleanse with fiber
  • NIDO Nutrisnax with fruits and vegetables
  • KOKO KRUNCH and FITNESSE made with whole grain

What has Nestlé done to reduce sugar in its products?

At Nestlé, we reduce sugar levels in our products while ensuring the taste and quality you expect to remain unchanged. Our continuous innovation has also led to reduced-sugar options like NESCAFÉ Sugar-free and MILO Zero Added Table Sugar. This is how we stay committed to promoting healthier dietary choices among consumers like you.

What is Designed for Recycling?

Designed for Recycling means the packaging used for your product is composed of a single type of plastic (mono-material) that does not need taking apart for it to undergo recycling. However, even if the packaging material is designed to be recycled there are no available recycling facilities in the Philippines yet. Here in the Philippines, we have started to shift some of our MAGGI, MILO, NESCAFE, and COFFEE-MATE packs to mono-material, a simpler material that is designed for recycling. In supporting these brands, you too are helping shape a waste-free future.

Why is it important?

By shifting our packaging to easy-recycle materials, we continue to work towards a waste-free future together. Doing so opens the possibility of significantly reducing the amount of post-consumer waste that can leak out into our oceans and waterways with proper segregation, collection, and processing.

What else must be done to make our packaging recyclable in the Philippines?

As we continue to innovate with our packaging, there is also a need to build and improve on the plastics value chain in the country. A big gap in the Philippines is the absence of recyclers. By shifting to mono-material packaging, we are helping create a supply of ready feed stock for recycling facilities. We hope to encourage recyclers to view the Philippines as a viable country for investment with a growing demand for processors. This, in turn, can help us accelerate towards a working circular economy for the country.

What do we mean by 95% Natural Fiber Paper Straw?

Since 2020, all Nestlé Philippines Ready-to-Drink products shifted to paper straws made with 95% natural fibers from plant sources and without any inner plastic or wax lining to ensure biodegradability without the need for industrial composters. This means that, with this transition, all our straws will no longer remain as litter in the environment and will naturally degrade over a short amount of time.

What do we mean by 100% Renewable Electricity?

In the Philippines, all of Nestlé’s electricity needs are sourced from local, renewable energy sources like geothermal and hydroelectric powerplants. These energy sources generate the electricity we use for all our Philippine factories and our main office in Makati. Transitioning to these sources allows us to reduce our GHG footprint1 by avoiding the use of more traditional energy sources like coal, gas, and other fossil fuels in our operations, ultimately bringing us closer to our global 2050 Net Zero ambitions.

What’s the difference between renewable electricity and renewable energy?

While similar sounding, these two concepts do have slight differences. Renewable energy refers to the energy derived from natural sources that are replenished at a higher rate than they are consumed.1 When energy from these sources is used to produce electricity, we get renewable electricity. To put it simply, think of renewable energy as the raw material and renewable electricity as the final product that we, at Nestlé Philippines, use to power the production of the brands that you love.

What is Regenerative Agriculture?

Regenerative agriculture is a method of farming that aims to reverse the effects of climate change by improving soil fertility and restoring degraded soil biodiversity. Not only does it result in systemic crop health, regenerative agriculture also reduces carbon emissions and improves water systems to create an ecosystem in which a wider variety of plant and animal life can thrive. Most importantly, it mitigates the adverse consequences for the planet of food production, so that humans can continue to harvest nourishing food for many years to come.

Through the NESCAFÉ Plan program, Nestlé works closely with coffee farmers and their communities, the national and local governments, development agencies, and other partners to promote a comprehensive regenerative agriculture model that protects the three key resources of any agricultural system: soil, water, and biodiversity.

How can you #ChooseGood for the planet?

Get inspiration on how you can choose good to do good for the planet.

In the space of environment and sustainability, we believe that everyone can do their part in helping accelerate our journey towards a Net Zero tomorrow. Through our initiatives, we hope to inspire individuals to join us in our advocacy and embed sustainability in our day to day lives.

Starting with our 5,000 strong Nestlé Philippines employees, we drive and encourage behavior change in their personal lives. We provide opportunities for them to take part in volunteerism activities like closed-loop coastal cleanup drives and reforestation initiatives, to name a few. Since 2022, over 500 volunteers collected and segregated 4,706 kilos of coastal plastic waste and planted over 6,000 native trees.

Inspiring Nestlé employees to take action for the environment.

We also brought together over 400 of our employees who have a strong passion and drive to make a positive impact on our environment and influence others to do the same, our Kasambassadors (Kasambuhay Ambassadors). Through this community, we are able to provide the support that our Kasambassadors need to apply Nestlé’s Net Zero ambitions to their personal lives. We help them discover their answers to the following questions:

  • How do I include more recyclable and reusable items?
  • How do I lessen my use of virgin plastics?
  • How do I lessen my carbon footprint?

We recognize that every person’s experience and circumstances are different and that the practices that work for one Kasambuhay will not necessarily work for another. What is important is that we get to take inspiration from what others are doing and actively seek out those practices that work for us.

What can YOU do?

Starting your journey as a Kasambuhay for the environment can be daunting but there are a few quick and easy steps that you can take today.

Choose to practice the 3 R’s: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

Most of us have been exposed to the 3 R’s and there’s a good reason for that. These three actions are easy ways for you to lessen the amount of waste that you generate. Additionally, we must always make it a practice to segregate our waste. After segregation, you can drop off your waste in the nearest collection points or Materials Recovery Facility (MRF). You can find nearby collection points with our Plastic Drop Map. You can also reach out to your local baranggay to learn more about MRFs.
