Operating for the good of Filipino families and the planet

As your Kasambuhay for Good, we engage in projects and initiatives that help tackle major social, environmental, and economic sustainability concerns in the country where we can make a difference. We are supported by our capabilities, reach, and resources, built during more than 110 years of Nestlé’s presence in Filipino daily life.

As the largest food and beverage manufacturer and a top corporation in the country, we have the responsibility to take a leadership role with groundbreaking initiatives in striving to be a force for good.

Creating Shared Value (CSV) in the Philippines

At the core of Creating Shared Value (CSV) is the concept of pursuing healthy business performance while making a positive impact on the needs of society and the planet. These mutually reinforcing elements are indispensable to business, as well as environmental, social, and economic sustainability.

The purpose of Nestlé is unlocking the power of food to enhance quality of life for everyone, today and for generations to come. With that purpose and our values based on respect, we collaborate with our partners towards generating outcomes that are good for families, communities, and the Earth.

We do so with CSV initiatives that aim to better the quality of life of Filipinos, from our employees who enable our operations, to the farmers who grow our raw ingredients, to the families who enjoy our products, to the communities with which we are involved.

Simultaneously, we work to help save and regenerate nature, on which we as a food and beverage company depend for our raw materials.

People and Planet

The natural environment is in grave danger of irreversible degradation, impacting first and foremost on human life and welfare. And so, for us at Nestlé, preserving the planet and regenerating its resources for coming generations is of overriding importance. in driving environmental sustainability. We are addressing plastic waste and climate change, the most pressing of environmental issues, with trailblazing interventions. Our efforts focus on (1) transforming our operations, (2) shaping a waste-free future, and (3) sourcing responsibly.

Specific CSV programs and projects for environmental sustainability include reducing plastic use in our supply chain, achieving large-scale plastic neutrality by collecting plastic waste equivalent to the volumes of plastic in our packaging, teaching 11 million public schoolchildren solid waste management, switching from fossil fuel to 100% renewable electricity in all our factories, conserving water in our production, and sharing regenerative agriculture practices with coffee farmers.

Our Net Zero roadmap guides us towards attaining net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

People in Communities

As the country’s biggest coffee manufacturer, we buy as much homegrown Robusta coffee as we can, rather than imported green coffee beans. With steadily decreasing local coffee production as a serious problem in the agriculture sector, our NESCAFÉ Plan is a large-scale and continuing program to help smallholder coffee farmers and their communities to increase yields and incomes sustainably, raising their quality of life by mitigating poverty. At the same time, the program helps farmers to learn and practice regenerative agriculture, which reinvigorates the soil, water, and natural ecosystems needed for farm productivity, while building resilience against climate change.

On another front, we foster the cultivation of urban vegetable gardens in communities, enabling residents to grow healthy and nutritious produce even in limited spaces.
